BREAKING NEWS: The Cowboys should steer clear of drafting two particular players in the 2024 NFL Draft.
The Cowboys are seeking offensive improvements, but they should look elsewhere for talent rather than considering these player prospects.
As the 2024 NFL Draft approaches, speculation regarding teams’ strategies for roster enhancement intensifies, with the Dallas Cowboys holding the No. 24 overall pick. Despite limited activity in free agency, primarily focused on re-signing existing players like former Los Angeles Chargers linebacker Eric Kendricks to a one-year deal, the Cowboys are renowned for prioritizing internal talent development, making the draft a crucial event.
Heading into the 2024 season with hopes of overcoming past postseason disappointments, the Cowboys have identified multiple areas for improvement, including running back, wide receiver, tackle, center, defensive lineman, linebacker, and cornerback, according to PFF. While they may target the best available player with their No. 24 pick, it’s essential to avoid certain prospects.
Here are three players the Cowboys should bypass in the 2024 NFL Draft:
1. Brian Thomas Jr., WR, LSU:
While adding another receiving option for quarterback Dak Prescott is enticing, the priority should be bolstering the offensive line to protect Prescott, especially considering Tyron Smith’s potential replacement needs. Thomas, among the top-rated wide receivers, may not offer the agility needed post-catch, potentially making him a less suitable fit for the Cowboys’ needs.
2. Jaylen Wright, RB, Tennessee:
Despite re-signing Rico Dowdle, the Cowboys still need to address the running back position in the draft. While some experts suggest waiting until later rounds, potentially targeting Wright with their No. 87 pick, caution is warranted. Despite impressive combine stats, Wright’s smaller stature and lack of power as an early-down back may not align with the Cowboys’ requirements for the position.
In a pivotal year for the Cowboys, where decisions regarding Prescott’s extension and the coaching staff’s future are at stake, prioritizing the right prospects is crucial for their success.
