Chelsea are expected to secure the services of a new striker ahead of the commencement of the 2024/25 Premier League season. Last summer, they acquired Nicolas Jackson from Villarreal to reinforce their attacking lineup.

Jackson, who joined for £32 million, has netted 12 goals in 35 appearances this season, a decent but perhaps insufficient tally for Chelsea’s aspirations of re-entering the top four. With Mauricio Pochettino’s squad currently relying solely on the 22-year-old as their recognized center-forward, it’s apparent that they may require additional firepower upfront.

Considering their current lack of striking options and league position, Chelsea are likely to explore the transfer market for reinforcements, which wouldn’t come as a surprise at this stage. Among the rumored targets, Brentford’s Ivan Toney has been prominently mentioned, with reports suggesting a potential £30 million price tag.

However, despite the tempting valuation, it’s difficult to envision Brentford agreeing to such a fee for Toney, given his pivotal role as their top scorer with 21 goals in 35 appearances last season. Nonetheless, with his contract set to expire in 2025, Brentford may face pressure to sell either in the upcoming summer window or next January, which could lead to negotiations with interested clubs, including Chelsea, who might seek to exploit the situation. Therefore, Toney remains a player of significant interest to watch in the forthcoming transfer window.
