The Miami Dolphins head into the 2024 NFL Draft with various needs to address on both offense and defense. However, there’s speculation that the franchise might aim for a high-impact selection in the first round, potentially adding a new dimension to the team’s future.

Among the Dolphins’ draft needs in 2024 are offensive tackle, guard, safety, and edge rusher positions. While Miami made moves to bolster its pass rush in NFL free agency, injuries to top edge rushers Bradley Chubb (ACL) and Jaelan Phillips (Achilles) have created uncertainty at the position for the upcoming season.

Terron Armstead’s return for the 2024 season provides some stability on the offensive line, but with concerns about his longevity and injury history, there’s a pressing need to address the offensive line, especially the interior positions. Despite limited draft picks, it seems the Dolphins might prioritize a more attention-grabbing pick in the first round.

According to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, there’s speculation among NFL teams that the Dolphins have set their sights on wide receiver Xavier Worthy with the 21st overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Many believe Worthy will be the Dolphins’ choice if he’s available.

Miami has shown significant interest in Worthy during the pre-draft process, attending Texas’ Pro Day and with head coach Mike McDaniel holding a one-on-one meeting with Worthy. There appears to be mutual interest between the team and the player.

Worthy boasts an impressive 40-yard dash time of 4.21 seconds, making him the fastest player in the 2024 NFL Draft and breaking the record for the fastest 40 time at the NFL Combine. However, concerns linger about his slender frame, weighing in at only 165 pounds. Teams question how he’ll fare against the physicality of the league and more aggressive cornerbacks.

Given his size, Worthy is viewed as the type of offensive weapon who will require scheming to create opportunities and may benefit from being paired with a skilled offensive coordinator. Fortunately, McDaniel’s offensive scheme could suit him well. However, selecting Worthy with a top-25 pick might be seen as a bit of a reach, particularly considering the depth of this year’s wide receiver class and the Dolphins’ needs on the offensive line.
